Life management

Dynamic Backlinks

When you’re busy, the easiest thing in the world is to put people off, say no and neglect the things that truly matter in life. It’s ironic because as we get more busy and more pressured, we need time out, pleasant lunches and quiet moments even more and that’s when we don’t get them! I preach a lot about time management in my work but it’s really life management. (more…)

Being spiritual

Dynamic Backlinks

I’ve been thinking about being spiritual. Years ago, it was a real dilemna for me to understand how one can be successful in a very practical world and maintain one’s spiritual integrity at the same time.

Then I came to see it - we are all spiritual 24 hours a day regardless of what we’re doing. (more…)

Does marriage end at 50?

Dynamic Backlinks

It’s happened to me, and to many of my friends: their wives have left them after 20, 30 or 40 years of marriage, once they’ve got past menopause and the kids have left home. (more…)

Can an atheist believe in God?

Dynamic Backlinks

Yes. I do. I believe in God as the hero of one of mankind’s oldest books, as an inspirational figure, as a metaphor for everything that we find divine and mysterious in ourselves and the world around us. I believe in God as a social force, in the Bible (the proper translation of “ta biblia” should be “the Bibles”) as a powerfully influential and sometimes beautiful set of books. It is, as Northrop Frye called it, “The Great Code”, a cornerstone of our culture. (more…)

Saving the planet

Dynamic Backlinks

Debates get polarized and simplified. Either (a) you don’t believe in global warming and you’re in bed with the evil oil companies and George Bush, who only care about profits and don’t give a damn about our grandchildren; or (b) you do believe, and figure that all kinds of bad things will happen, and we should all be Doing Something About It. Kyoto is the current code word: you’re either for it, and therefore a type (b), or against it, and therefore a type (a). (more…)

Creativity

Dynamic Backlinks

For me, creativity is a natural part of the human experience, as easy as breathing. Do we think about each breath as we take it? Do we think about the workings of our internal organs, except when they fail or malfunction? Creativity is part of our lifeforce energy and so is linked to our spirituality and sexuality. (more…)

Hearing Dogs

Hearing dogs alert their owners to everyday sounds. Jill Exposito, a hard of hearing woman, puts her trust in Uriah for independence. “I don’t need to rely on anyone to tell me that the phone is ringing or someone is knocking on my door,” said Exposito. Uriah, like most hearing dogs, provides Exposito with heightened freedom and self-confidence both inside and outside her home. (more…)

Happiness

Dynamic Backlinks

My theme this week is on happiness and attitude. I am always `preaching’ to my clients, radio listeners, readers and students that happiness is a choice, a state of being rather than a goal or outside events. Yesterday, on the net, I read a good line about this - `you can choose to be on the road TO happiness or on the road OF happiness,’ a very good way of putting it. (more…)
